Wilkommen

So. I am a 23 year old student from a small rural town on the Canadian prairies. I even grew up on the farm. I'm close to my family and have no desire to escape them. I'm finishing my English degree and also study history, German and Spanish. I'm a manager in a restaurant where I've worked for five years. I've lived abroad and travel quite a lot considering my budget. I like music, fashion, and bashing all of the other things students like.  I have to confess that all my life I have loved magazines, the glossy pages, pictures of fabulous people and clothes. However, the more I started to read them, the more I wondered if there were actually women who lived like in these magazines or who found their 'advice' helpful. I have a lot of girlfriends, who I am close with, but can't say that I see their lives, nor mine reflected in the pages of said magazines. This summer I was on vacation with a friend from Paris. A perfectly confident French girl with a stable relationship. One day she confessed that she had been reading Cosmo and it had made her completely insecure about her relationship. Basically what I want to do is to try following the advise given to me by women magazines and see what the outcome is. Or to see why something that apparently is based on girly friendship basically only makes us insecure, and also, why does it work?
