Well, again this week I have to say that Once Upon a Time actually brought it's A-game, and 2 guest appearances that I was thrilled to see: Nicholas Lea (or, as he will forever be to me, Krycek from X-Files) and Eion Bailey. I still am not really into the Evil Mayor/Queen. She just doesn't seem evil to me, but in any case, this week we find ourselves in the woods with Hansel and Gretel, in Fairy Tale land they are two children out chopping wood with their dad (Nicholas Lea) when he disappears. While searching for him they run into the Evil Queen and her guards with their ridiculous hats. She tells them they will be free to go if they do something for her. Of course we know where this is going, they have to break into the Evil Witch's house to steal something, a black package(ooer). Unfortunately said witch eats children. Fortunately she is blind unless you eat one of her delectable looking cupcakes. The kids break in and nearly get roasted but escape with the package and the Evil Witch gets roasted. The Queen gets her poison apple back and then after the kids get smart with her, she ships them off the woods and their dad off somewhere else and tells them to find each other. I must say, as far as villains go, she isn't so much a villain as seriously annoying. Back in Storybrook Hansel and Gretel are just two kids who don't have parents. When they get busted shoplifting Emma finds out and decides to help them because she don't want them to go into the evil foster system. I must interrupt this review to make a small rant. What does television have against the foster system? Look, obviously this is a flawed system but I know lots of foster parents and including my own parents and all of the ones I know are great parents who treat the kids like their own. Anytime that something bad has happened it has been the fault of the system, not the parents. Okay, rant over. Emma is depressed because she doesn't know who her parents are. Henry is depressed because he doesn't know who is dad is. Hansel and Gretel are depressed because they don't know who their dad is. Emma tracks him down with her super sleuthing skills. He doesn't want anything to do with them and doesn't even think they are his. Yikes, dear residents of Storybrook-perhaps look into some contraceptives? Just a thought. Emma uses her super trickery skills to get the kids and dad to meet. Of course he instantly loves them and takes them home. Meanwhile, Emma tells Henry that his dad died as a firefighter. Everyone is touched. That is, until Emma tells Mary Margaret that it's all a bunch of crap and his dad was really a huge jerk. Cue an entrance be a mysterious stranger (Eion Bailey-yum!). He vrooms up on his motorcycle and tells Emma he's here to stay. This better be Henry's dad or I will be seriously annoyed. I have to say, for once I don't have any major complaints about this episode. Once again the costuming blew my mind, the Queen is totally wearing a cowboy hat in one scene but otherwise they have given us a fairly decent episode. However, I am crossing my fingers that Eion Bailey becomes a regular on this show.
